Rumor: LA Kings Open to Trading Jonathan Quick
The Los Angeles Kings announced the team has signed goaltender Cal Petersen to a huge three-year contract extension worth $5 million a season and some in the industry feel this will set up a trade for Jonathan Quick, who is slated to make $5.8 million this season and next.
The Kings appear to be all in on Cal Petersen with this contract starting next season. Jonathan Quick has 2 years and $10.8 million left on his massive Lombardi contract. https://t.co/O6PHfUb7tN

There's very limited chance the Kings would head into next season with over $10.8 million tied up to their goaltenders, so it does make some sense they would be open to a move. It's likely to happen next summer and there would be a number of teams interested in the veteran netminder.
Last season Quick posted a 2,86 GAA and a .898 save % in 22 games and is now the backup to the 26-year-old Peterson. It's also worth noting Quick does not hold any trade protection and can be dealt at will. With all he's given to the franchise, he's certainly going to have some say in the matter, which makes you believe the deal goes down next summer.
For now, Quick remains a King, the team is looking to bounce back and take a giant step forward, and the organization has given the keys to the crease to Peterson.
