Rumor: Maple Leafs Considering Adding Players on Professional Tryouts
The Toronto Maple Leafs are basically set at each position as training camp looms, however, word is there's a few players on their radar for professional tryouts (PTO's).
The team already has Josh Ho-Sang coming to training camp on a tryout, meanwhile there's been rumblings they've tried to get Tyler Bozak, James Neal and Erik Gudbranson to agree to come to camp. As of right now it appears all three veterans are holding out for a potential one-year contract.
Neal would give the Leafs some more competition for their left-wing positions, as newcomers Nick Ritchie and Michael Bunting are certainly going to push the competition in training camp. Ilya Mikheyev will also be right in the thick of things when it comes to the two open left-wing spots within the Leafs top-six. As for Neal he's spent the past couple of seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, and while he's not the sniper he once was, on a league minimum contract he could be appealing to multiple teams.
Bozak is rumored to be listening on a few teams, including the Leafs, Colorado Avalanche and Boston Bruins. He would give the Maple Leafs another center to battle for the third or fourth line pivot positions with the likes of Adam Brooks, Alex Kerfoot and David Kampf.
Gudbranson on the other hand, the market has been quiet on the rugged defenseman. The Leafs lost Zach Bogosian so he's potentially a replacement for him, however if they decide to take a pass, it's likely because they have a good feeling about their young group of defenseman who are coming to camp.
Keep an eye on these three veterans, if it's not the Maple Leafs, they'll be invited by other teams as training camp kicks off in a couple of weeks and they all have lots left in the tank.
