Rumor: Montreal Canadiens Almost Replaced Carey Price with Marc-Andre Fleury
Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin likes to be one step ahead of the competition. While everyone was very surprised to see goaltender Carey Price exposed to the Seattle Kraken, rumors have surfaced suggesting there was a deal in place with the Vegas Golden Knights for Marc-Andre Fleury if Price was claimed.
The report has surfaced from a website out of the Montreal area. The deal was reportedly for a third and fourth round draft pick. Vegas ended up moving Fleury to the Chicago Blackhawks for nothing as they have already terminated the contract of the player received in the deal. The Golden Knights needed cap space and moving Fleury and his $7 million cap hit was basically their only way to create some.
As for the Canadiens, they move on with Carey Price between the pipes who went from needing season-ending knee surgery to somehow being perfectly healthy for training camp. It's funny how things work themselves out in the media in Montreal.
Fleury to the Habs? Almost happened apparently.
