San Jose Sharks Having Extension Talks With Tomas Hertl
According to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now, the Sharks have begun extension talks with Tomas Hertl. The 27-year-old center has also stated that he would be open to taking less money if the Sharks are competitive this season.
Until a potential extension is finalized, Hertl will be one of the biggest names in the rumor mill this season. The Sharks could surprise people this year, but when looking at their 21-28-7 record from last season, their chances do not seem high. Thus, Hertl could find himself as a top-of-the-line rental for a competitive NHL team once the trade deadline arrives.
In 50 games this past season, Hertl scored 19 goals and recorded 43 points. There's no denying that he's capable of producing offense, as it is exactly why he is a top-six forward in this league. He also had 74 points in 77 games during the 2018-19 season. If he becomes available and is moved to a team who has more offensive weapons to compliment him, his production should also go up.
We will have to wait and see if the Sharks end up signing Hertl to an extension soon.
