Seattle Kraken: 3 Candidates To Be Named Next Captain
At this said time, there are six teams who do not have a captain. Thus, in this short segment, we will be discussing three players from each team who could end up being given this honor. It is important to note that there is a chance that some of these teams may hold off from naming one. Yet, it is still entertaining to go over their options.
To finish off this mini segment, let's look at the Seattle Kraken. Picking captain candidates for this team will be the hardest, as they have yet to play a game and could trade more of their players at any moment. However, at this point in time, there are a few players who stand out in my opinion.
Mark Giordano D: Mark Giordano seems like the frontrunner to be named captain if they announce one quickly. The 37-year-old defenseman was just captain of the Calgary Flames for the last eight seasons. Even with his older age, he is still a very solid defenseman, as evidenced by his 26 points in 56 games last season. He seems like the best player for the role for at least the short-term.
Brandon Tanev LW: Brandon Tanev is not a star in this league, but he is a heart-and-soul player. Therefore, his hard work and tenacity may make him an interesting choice for the C. He also is coming off of a career season with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he had seven goals and 16 points in 32 games. Perhaps the best has yet to come from the 29-year-old winger and he can cement himself as their first ever captain.
Jaden Schwartz LW: Jaden Schwartz has 560 career games under his belt, so he has a lot of experience in this league. He also was an alternate captain for the St. Louis Blues for multiple seasons, so he is used to being a leader. His chances are also heightened by the fact that he signed for five years with the Kraken. Therefore, he could hold the role for a fairly long time.
