Sharks Evander Kane Reveals Details About Gambling Problem

San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane recently sat down with ESPN's Linda Cohn and opened up on a number of topics. One in particular was his gambling addiction which led to his bankruptcy.

Kane was very honest and open about what went on throughout the interview, not only about gambling, but also his ex-wife's wild comments in the media and the allegations he threw his own games. Here's what Kane had to say on the matter:

Obviously (the accusations are) incredibly false. It's unfortunate that transpired, and it's unfortunate that those false allegations were made. I understood the magnitude of them immediately," he added. "I know (they're) not true. I know none of what she was saying was true. I was very confident, comfortable with knowing that I was going to be exonerated and am going to be exonerated of those allegation. When you have a problem, sometimes you can't control your decision-making at that time. I think that was an example of my problem getting the better of me. I had a gambling problem. And when you have a gambling problem, just like a drinking problem or a drug problem, sometimes you can't control your actions. You just keep digging a deeper hole. At the end of the day, it's something that I went through and I'm looking forward to moving (on).

It went from bad to worse this offseason for Kane as it was reported a number of his Sharks teammates have asked for him to be moved off the team. The Sharks continue to hold trade talks, but to this point it doesn't appear anything is close. Look for Kane to try and move on from all the off-ice distractions and build off one of the best on-ice seasons of his career, where he led the Sharks with 49 points in 56 games. If only his teammates appreciated the help a little more...
