St. Louis Blues: Best Addition And Worst Subtraction Of The Summer

Now that the off-season seems to be slowing down, we have a pretty good idea of every team's roster heading into this upcoming year. In this segment, we will be going over the best addition and worst subtraction for each of them. Something important to note is that players who were re-signed or given extensions will not be eligible for the "best addition" section. The same applies for picks from this year's NHL Entry Draft.

In this piece, we will be focusing on the St. Louis Blues. They certainly have a different looking roster heading into this upcoming season, but they should still make the postseason. They had some significant losses, but did bring in some notable talent, too. We will have to wait and see just how strong they end up being.

Best Addition: Pavel Buchnevich RW/LW

The Blues not only acquired Pavel Buchnevich from the New York Rangers for a small price, but also immediately signed him to a four-year, $23.2 million contract. In 54 games this season, he scored 20 goals and recorded 48 points. He should be an excellent addition for them, as he has blossomed into a legitimate top-six forward and can play top-line minutes. His offensive ability will make him a key contributor moving forward. Brandon Saad also was a very solid signing, but Buchnevich is a bit more productive offensively.

Worst Subtraction: Vince Dunn D

Although losing Jaden Schwartz and Mike Hoffman in free agency certainly stings, I'd argue that Vince Dunn is their biggest loss. Dunn was taken by the Kraken in the Expansion Draft, so the Blues received nothing for him. Keep in mind, he's a top-four defenseman who is still just 24 years old. In 43 games this past season, he scored six goals and recorded 20 points as well. It will be interesting to see how much he improves with Seattle. He will certainly have plenty of chances to.
