Teams Reportedly Interested In P.K. Subban Revealed
This past week, we wrote a piece discussing about multiple teams being interested in P.K. Subban. Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now originally made the report and he has now revealed the two teams. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins have both made calls about the veteran defenseman.
This is a pretty interesting development, as the Maple Leafs zero cap space, while the Bruins have a little over $1 million, according to Cap Friendly. Without the New Jersey Devils retaining any of his salary, he would have a $9 million cap hit. Thus, the Devils would need to retain half of his salary for a deal to have any chance of going through with either team. Furthermore, they would each need to send their own players the other way. It seems a bit too complicated at the end of the day.
It does make sense that both teams would want him, though. The Leafs would benefit from adding another defenseman on the right side, as they lost Zach Bogosian this off-season. The Bruins also would, as Kevan Miller retired and he's an upgrade over Connor Clifton.
After a rough first season with New Jersey, Subban improved and had 5 goals and 19 points in 44 games. He isn't a star anymore, but surely would work well on a team's bottom-pair and power play.
Although the Bruins and Leafs have expressed interest, their limited salary and Subban's expensive contract makes it hard to finalize a trade.
