Toronto Maple Leafs: 3 Players With Expiring Contracts

With the off-season almost completed, it feels right to take a preview into next year's. In this segment, we will be looking at three players from each team who have expiring contracts. Both restricted and unrestricted free agents are eligible for discussion.

In this piece, we will be looking at the Toronto Maple Leafs. They have a lot of notable names who have expiring contracts, so it will be intriguing to see what they end up doing next summer.

Morgan Rielly D (UFA): Morgan Rielly is the biggest name on the Leafs who has an expiring contract. Toronto will certainly want to keep him around, as he is their most talented defenseman. In 55 games this season, the 27-year-old scored five goals and recorded 35 points. Although he has yet to replicate his 72-point campaign during the 2018-19 season, he still produces very well on the backend. With him having the chance to be a UFA, he will command a serious raise to stick around. It will be interesting to see if Toronto can make it work.

Jack Campbell G (UFA): Jack Campbell became the Leafs' starting goaltender last season after a strong season. In 22 games, he had a 17-3-2 record and .921 SV%. It will be interesting to see how he follows that up while in a tandem with Petr Mrazek. If Campbell has himself another strong season, he could get a lot of money, whether it be from the Leafs or on the open market. Thus, this is a huge year for the 29-year-old.

Ilya Mikheyev RW (UFA): Ilya Mikheyev reportedly asked for a trade this summer, but a deal did not come into fruition. He will be looking to bounce back this year, as he had just 17 points in 54 games this past season. Keep in mind, he had eight goals and 23 points in just 39 games in his first season with the team. He is expected to at least start the season with the Leafs. If he has a good year, it will be interesting to see what his next contract will be.

Honorable Mentions: Jason Spezza C (UFA), Rasmus Sandin D (RFA)
