Trade Rumor: Tomas Hertl to the Montreal Canadiens
The Montreal Canadiens are weighing all their options when it comes to the current offer sheet for Jesperi Kotkaniemi from the Carolina Hurricanes. This includes some potential trades that may come after if the Canadiens decide not to match, and one team to watch, the San Jose Sharks.
Reports have surfaced suggesting the Canadiens may be interested in flipping the compensation from the Hurricanes to the Sharks, along with another asset for Tomas Hertl. The 27-year-old versatile forward is coming off a season where he put up 43 points in 50 games and would certainly boost Montreal's top six. He's currently making $5.625 million on the salary cap, in the last year of his contract before he hits free agency next summer.
The Canadiens have two more days to decide what direction they want to head. At this point it's starting to appear the team is willing to walk away from Kotkaniemi and will be looking to make a counter move shortly after the decision.
