Vancouver Canucks: 3 Bold Predictions for the 2021-22 Season
The Vancouver Canucks are hoping for a bounce back season as management went out this offseason and made some major changes. The team pulled off a blockbuster trade, they landed a couple of free agents and they still have some work to do to get a couple of their big guns signed. Here's 3 bold predictions on the Canucks heading into the 2021-22 season:
Conor Garland Leads the Team in Points
The shift winger moves from the Arizona Coyotes up north to Vancouver and should be given a golden opportunity to shine. Garland put up 39 points in 49 games last season in the desert and should stay hot in 2021-22. He's going to be playing with much more talent with the Canucks and Garland is poised for a breakout season.
Jaroslav Halak Takes #1 Spot
The Canucks replaced Braden Holtby with Halak and they should feel good about it. Halak was absolutely solid the past three seasons for the Boston Bruins and he's not afraid of some competition in the crease. Thatcher Demko is going to be in tough against the 36-year-old and look for Halak to get off to a hot start and make head coach Travis Green's job difficult when it comes to his starter.
Elias Pettersson Signs Offer Sheet with Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings have been linked to Pettersson for some time now and while this is very unlikely, if any team was going to do it, the Red Wings may be it. The team has tons of draft picks in the cupboards, a roster full of young potential and several prospects expected to push for roster spots over the course of the next two seasons. Pettersson is still unsigned and will demand big money. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman recently admitted there's certainly a chance it happens.....all we needed to hear.
