Vancouver Canucks: Best Addition And Worst Subtraction Of The Summer
Now that the off-season seems to be slowing down, we have a pretty good idea of every team's roster heading into this upcoming year. In this segment, we will be going over the best addition and worst subtraction for each of them. Something important to note is that players who were re-signed or given extensions will not be eligible for the "best addition" section. The same applies for 2021 draft picks.
In this piece, we will be discussing the Vancouver Canucks. It has been an eventful off-season for the team, as they have made a lot of changes to their roster. They are hoping that these transactions will allow them to get back into the playoffs this upcoming season. They have made some solid additions and it could be enough for this to come into fruition.
Best Addition: Conor Garland RW
Truthfully, you could go with either Conor Garland or Oliver Ekman-Larsson for this. Both players are expected to provide a lot for the Canucks this upcoming season. However, I'd say Garland gets a bit of a slight edge because of the fact that he's younger and his new contract is more affordable. Furthermore, he is coming off of a fantastic season that saw him record 39 points in 49 games. It was also only his third season in the league, so he should continue to only get better. Either way, Vancouver fans should be excited about both of these two moving forward.
Worst Subtraction: Alexander Edler D
Although Nate Schmidt could end up being a hard loss if he rebounds, he requested a trade and struggled in his lone season with Vancouver. With Alexander Edler, he also had a down year, as he only had eight assists in 52 games. However, he spent 15 years with the Canucks and it will be hard to see him wearing a different jersey next season. Furthermore, he is just one year removed from a 33-point campaign in just 59 games, so who is to say he can't turn it around himself? Regardless, both Schmidt and Edler could work for this section. Yet, giving the slight edge to Edler seemed justifiable because of his strong tenure with the team.
