Video: Maple Leafs Defenseman Comments on Future in Toronto
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly is the longest serving Maple Leaf at the moment and at Marketing Day for the team on Wednesday, Rielly admitted he knows he's in a contract year and the NHL is a business.
Rielly is in the final season of his contract, paying him $5 million. Considering the money that's been tossed around of late and how this is a potential Olympic year for Rielly, there's a ton of motivation and reasoning to not sign on the dotted line at the moment. 'Mo' admitted he's trying to not focus on the contract talks and let his agent, JP Barry do his job.
Last season Rielly had a solid campaign registering 35 points in 55 games and look for him to have an even bigger year in 2021-22. Here's Rielly press conference from Wednesday where he opened up about a number of things and had quite the strategy when asked questions about his new contract:
