Winnipeg Jets Terminate Defenseman's Contract
The Winnipeg Jets and defenseman Sami Niku have mutually agreed to part ways. The rare termination of a contract took place in Winnipeg as Niku is now looking for another NHL franchise to take a chance on his services.
The former 7th round selection was entering the final season of a two-year contract which was due to pay him $725,000 in 2021-22. At only 24 years old there's certainly some potential a team takes a flyer on Niku. Toronto Star's Chris Johnston was the first to report the news.
Some teams who may take a look at the mobile defenseman include the Nashville Predators, San Jose Sharks, Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres.
