2 Minnesota Wild Prospects Who Could Get Called Up This Season

As the season gets underway, players will begin to suffer injuries as they sacrifice their bodies for the sake of their team, not to mention the ever-present concern of a positive Covid diagnosis. Eventually, there will be players who will need to miss games, and others will need to be called in to replace them in the lineup. Here are two such prospects who could see some playing time on the Minnesota Wild this season.

Marco Rossi

It was a tough year for Marco Rossi. He took a full season off due to a Covid diagnosis that led to further health problems. He didn't even make the Wild's training camp last winter. He was there this month though, and the results were very positive. The only problem is he didn't produce any points. That said, Rossi did pretty much everything else. He won 58% of his faceoffs and generated the second-most scoring chances of any Wild player behind only Mats Zuccarello. The fact that he didn't score is more surprising than anything, but the reality is nonetheless that he was held off the scoresheet. That needs to change during his time with the Iowa Wild of the AHL, and there is little reason to think it won't with the young talent he'll be surrounded by over there. When the scoring numbers start to pile up, the Wild's center-depth problems may necessitate the hastening of Rossi's NHL debut.

Adam Beckman

You might be thinking this spot should belong to Matt Boldy, and in fairness, you might be right. The thing is, Boldy was injured in a pre-season game and won't be able to play again until mid-November. That puts him a month behind everyone else in his effort to earn a roster spot. Then there's Beckman, who turned heads all over the ice during pre-season. He scored 4 goals and 5 points in 4 preseason games, including an overtime winner against the Blues. It's already surprising that he didn't manage to earn a roster spot with that kind of production, but you can bet if he produces on the Iowa Wild like he was with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL, he'll be back with the big-league team before too long.

Which players do you think will end up playing for the Wild this season?
