3 Goalies the Edmonton Oilers Could Trade For

The Edmonton Oilers lost their starter Mike Smith to a lower-body injury and now have to turn to Mikko Koskinen as their new number one. While callup Stuart Skinner may see some action, word is the Oilers are keeping their eyes and ears to the streets, trying to gauge what goaltenders may be available on the trade market.

It's been reported the team is open to moving their first-round pick and general manager Ken Holland has told the media he's willing to go for the Stanley Cup this year if he feels his team is good enough into 2022. So who exactly could the Oilers be considering?

Jonathan Quick: A long-shot for sure but a name that's been linked numerous times to the Oilers. He's become the backup in Los Angeles and with a big ticket over $5 million, there's been some outer interest in Quick's availability. Never fun dealing within your conference so this will be tough to materialize.

Matt Murray: This one would come with a huge risk and to be frank, maybe a risk the Oilers can't afford. Murray is starting for the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night in his season debut, and he's a name that's certainly available. His $6.25 million cap hit that runs two seasons past this one is not very appealing for GM's. Expect some salary retention in any deal between these two clubs.

Craig Anderson: Don't let the Buffalo Sabres 3-0 start fool you, they will come back down to earth. Anderson is 40 and on a one-year deal for only $750,000. While he wouldn't likely push Smith out of the starting job, he's a decent security blanket to have in case of an injury. Anderson showed last season he's still capable of performing in the playoffs and so far this season he's posted a 1.50 GAA and a .954 save %. Certainly a name that's going to come up this season on the trade market, not only for the Oilers but several playoff bound clubs.
