3 Potential Landing Spots For Erik Brännström

When the Ottawa Senators traded Mark Stone to the Vegas Golden Knights back in 2019, defenseman Erik Brännström was viewed as the big player going the other way. It made sense at the time, as he was just drafted 15th overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by Vegas. However, it seems that his time with the team is coming to a close. He is once again in the AHL and the Senators are listening to offers for him. In 30 games last season with Ottawa, he scored two goals and had 13 points. Thus, it's clear he still has the potential to be a productive offensive defenseman. It just appears that head coach D.J. Smith is not too confident in Brännström.

These three teams could be interesting spots for the youngster.

Arizona Coyotes: The Arizona Coyotes should be interested in trading for Brännström. They are currently in a full-on rebuild and could use a young point-producing defenseman who still has good upside. They also have hoarded a plethora of draft picks for the next few seasons, so they do have the assets to make a move. When looking at Arizona's defensive group, Brännström could fit anywhere in it.

San Jose Sharks: The San Jose Sharks and Ottawa Senators are no strangers to making trades. This could help San Jose's chances to bring in Brännström. Furthermore, their left side is not particularly strong, so he would have no trouble making their top-six.

Columbus Blue Jackets: The Columbus Blue Jackets also seem to be transitioning into a rebuild, as evidenced by their number of notable departures over the last year. This could make them another intriguing choice for Brännström. He certainly would have chances to thrive there, as he would likely have a solid role. He also would be a lock on their power play.
