Boston Bruins: 3 Players With Expiring Contracts
With the off-season completed, it feels right to take a preview into next year's. In this segment, we will be looking at three players from each team who have expiring contracts. Both restricted and unrestricted free agents are eligible for discussion.
In this piece, we will be looking at the Boston Bruins. The Bruins have two huge parts of their core with expiring deals, as well as a former first-round pick who is looking to have a bounce-back season.
Patrice Bergeron C (UFA): Patrice Bergeron has already stated that he will not have extension talks with the Bruins during the regular season. He is about to enter his 18th season with the Bruins and is still as good as ever. In 54 games this past season, he scored 23 goals and recorded 48 points. The captain also of course is still a fantastic defensive forward as well. With all of this, he is a player they absolutely need to re-sign.
Charlie McAvoy D (RFA): Charlie McAvoy is going to land himself a huge raise this summer. He is the team's best defenseman and is still only 23 years old. When looking at all of the big contracts signed by comparable defensemen this summer, it's apparent that McAvoy will follow suit. However, it's truly worth it at the end of the day, as he's a fantastic player. In 51 games this past season, he scored five goals and had 30 points. He also had 12 points in 11 postseason games.
Jake DeBrusk LW (RFA): This is a big year for Jake DeBrusk. The 24-year-old winger had just five goals and 14 points in 41 games last season and is capable of producing more. This is evident by his solid production during his first three years in the league. If he regroups and finds his old game, he could land himself a very solid contract next summer. However, if he has another year like last season, it may mark the end of his time in Boston.
