Boston Bruins Sign Charlie McAvoy To Extension
The Boston Bruins have signed Charlie McAvoy to an eight-year extension. It will have an average annual value of $9.5 million. It will begin during the 2022-23 season.
We previously reported that the Bruins were having talks with McAvoy, so it's not too surprising to see a deal now finalized. The 23-year-old defenseman was eligible to be a restricted free agent next summer.
Now, the Bruins have locked up McAvoy for the entirety of his prime years. Although the cap hit is high, one has to keep in mind that multiple defensemen received big contracts this summer. Some of these players include Seth Jones, Zach Werenski and Miro Heiskanen.
In 51 games this season with the Bruins, McAvoy scored five goals and recorded 30 points. In terms of the rate of his production, it was his best year to date. He seems to improving in all areas of the ice with each season that passes, too.
In 235 career games thus far, he has 24 goals, 98 assists and 122 points.
