Chicago Blackhawks Making Trade Offers to Shed Salary

While the Chicago Blackhawks continue to field trade calls on forward Dylan Strome, turns out they are looking to package Andrew Shaw's contract along in the trade.

Shaw and his $3.9 million contract is currently on LTIR. In 2020-21 the Blackhawks forward managed to appear in 14 games. In April Shaw retired from the NHL after doctors recommended he stop playing as it was becoming extremely bad for his health and could have lasting impacts on him long term.

Shaw, 29, was in his second stint with Chicago, where he won Stanley Cups in 2013 and 2015. Over his 10-year, 544-game NHL career, Shaw also played three seasons with the Montreal Canadiens.

The Blackhawks have reportedly talked to a number of teams about deals including the Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings and Seattle Kraken. Shaw's contract being thrown in could have some benefits down the road and as for Strome, he's still young and has some untapped potential that is currently being discussed in trade talks. Expect a move from Chicago, and soon.
