Chicago Blackhawks Young Defenseman Out With Ankle Injury

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Wyatt Kalynuk is expected to miss the next few weeks with an ankle injury, according to head coach Jeremy Colliton.

Kalynuk impressed during his first season as a professional player in both the NHL and AHL. In 21 games with the Blackhawks, he scored four goals and recorded nine points in 21 points. With the Rockford IceHogs, he had two goals and eight assists in just eight games. Thus, he was expected to play in Chicago's top-six to start the season. However, this injury will restrict that from occurring for now.

Kalynuk progressed significantly as a prospect while playing with the University of Wisconsin. In his final year with the school, he scored seven goals and had 28 points in 36 games as their captain.

With all of this, Kalynuk should become a regular for the Blackhawks once he is fully recovered. It will be intriguing to see how he performs in his second season with Chicago. When looking at the 24-year-old's offensive numbers, he certainly should be able to provide solid scoring from the backend.
