Colorado Avalanche To Sign Veteran Defenseman

Jack Johnson has spent the preseason on a professional tryout contract with the Colorado Avalanche. Now, the 34-year-old defenseman is going to sign a one-year deal with the team either today or tomorrow, according to Adrian Dater.

In 13 games last season with the New York Rangers, Johnson scored a goal. At this point of his career, he is more of a depth defenseman. When looking at how deep the Avalanche are on the backend, there's a very good chance that he will be their seventh or eighth defenseman.

In 950 career NHL games between the Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins and Rangers, Johnson has 71 goals, 232 assists and 303 points. It will be interesting to see how often he ends up playing for the Avalanche this season.
