Columbus Blue Jackets Name New Team Captain

The Columbus Blue Jackets are starting a new era and are looking to Boone Jenner to lead the way. The team has named Jenner the newest captain of the hockey club.

Jenner takes over for Nick Foligno who is now with the Boston Bruins and will look to bring the same intangibles to the hockey club as he will have some big shoes to fill. Jenner has been with the Blue Jackets since the 2013-14 season and has served as an alternate captain in the past.

The rugged winger plays a physical game and let's his play do the talking. Last season Jenner recorded 17 points in 41 games and should be in line for some more ice-tice this season, which should result in some more production.

Here's what head coach Brad Larsen had to say about Jenner leading the way:

We had a lot of discussions as a coaching staff and with management and, while we were in no rush to make a decision regarding the next captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets, it became obvious to all of us that Boone was the right choice. He has tremendous character and a work ethic that has earned the respect of his teammates and he's been an important part of our leadership group for several years. Zach, Gus and Oliver also have been part of that group and we are fortunate to have these guys lead our team
