Dallas Stars Defenseman Wants Long-Term Extension
With all of the big contracts being handed out to defenseman, it's not surprising to hear that John Klingberg wants one as well. The 29-year-old is seeking an eight-year deal that would pay him between $62 to $66 million in total, according to Jeff Marek. Klingberg is eligible for unrestricted free agency next summer.
We recently reported that the Stars have started extension talks with Klingberg. It will be intriguing to see if they will be willing to give him that kind of contract. As we just reported on our 32 Thoughts feature on Hockey Night in Canada the John Klingberg camp is looking for a deal in the $62-66 million range over an 8 year term.

Klingberg has been a very good offensive defenseman since he entered the league during the 2014-15 season. In 479 career games thus far with Dallas, he has 65 goals, 262 assists and 327 points. His best season came during the 2017-18 campaign, as he had 67 points in 82 games. In 53 games last season, he scored seven goals and had 36 points.
The Stars certainly want to keep him around if possible, as he is one of their top defenseman. However, there is a bit of risk signing him that long, as he will be 30 years old at the start of next season.
