Detroit Red Wings Release Bobby Ryan From PTO

Even after his good preseason, the Detroit Red Wings have decided to release Bobby Ryan from his professional tryout contract. The 34-year-old winger will now have to find a new home elsewhere.

It's disappointing to see Ryan not get a contract. He certainly still has the ability to be utilized as a bottom-six forward and can work on the power play. Perhaps another NHL team will see this and give him a chance.

In 33 games with the Red Wings last season, he scored seven goals and recorded 14 points. He was on pace to be one of their top scorers, had he stayed healthy. Yet, Detroit has decided to move on from Ryan and will likely be opting to give their younger players a chance.

In 866 career games between the Anaheim Ducks, Ottawa Senators and Red Wings, Ryan has 261 goals, 308 assists and 569 points.
