Joel Quenneville Resigns as Head Coach of the Florida Panthers
After meeting with the commissioner Gary Bettman on Thursday, Joel Quenneville has resigned from his position as head coach of the Florida Panthers. Andrew Brunette will take over behind the bench in Florida.
This comes after former Chicago Blackhawk Kyle Beach came forward as the player involved in the sexual assault allegations of a video coach of the Blackhawks back in 2010. Quenneville was the coach at the time and allegedly knew this had taken place and decided it was best the team focus on winning the Cup.
Quenneville coached on Wednesday night, the day the report came out, and the uproar was immense from people all over the hockey world.
Here's an interesting nugget from insider Kevin Weekes, who was the first to report the news:
I’m hearing there’s a coaching change coming shortly with the @FlaPanthers . Keep an eye on my @espn colleague John Tortorella as one of the top potential candidates.@NHL @NHLNetwork #HockeyTwitter .
