As we discussed yesterday, it seemed likely that another team would claim Pitlick. In eight games last season with the Chicago Wolves, he scored eight goals and recorded 10 points. Although he was playing in the AHL, that is still notable production. He also suited up in 10 games with the Predators and had two assists.
The Wild could use a bit more depth at center and Pitlick will give them that. He also is capable of playing on the wing, too. It will be intriguing to see if he fits into Minnesota's lineup for the start of the regular season.
Another interesting fact - Pitlick played his college days with the University of Minnesota, so he has experience in the state. In three seasons with the school, he had 47 goals and 108 points in 112 games.
Nonetheless, this is a no-risk move by the Wild that could benefit them if Pitlick can start scoring more at the NHL level.
