Montreal Canadiens: 3 Players With Expiring Contracts
With the off-season completed, it feels right to take a preview into next year's. In this segment, we will be looking at three players from each team who have expiring contracts. Both restricted and unrestricted free agents are eligible for discussion.
Nick Suzuki C (RFA): Nick Suzuki's entry-level contract expires after this season, so naturally, he will be landing himself a significant raise. He's blossoming into a fantastic two-way center in this league and is one of Montreal's most important players even at just 22 years old. In 56 games this past season, he scored 15 goals and recorded 41 points. The season before, he also had 41 points, but it was in 71 games. It will be intriguing to see how much better he does this season.
Ben Chiarot D (UFA): Ben Chiarot has one year left on his deal and will be looking to regroup in his contract year. In 41 games this past season, he had a goal, seven points, and a -16 rating. During the season before, he had 21 points in 69 games, so is he capable of producing far more from the backend. Furthermore, one should expect to see his plus-minus rating be noticeably higher this season.
Alexander Romanov D (UFA): Alexander Romanov is a player to watch this season. As a rookie last season, he had a goal and six points in 54 games. One has to wonder how much he will progress this season, as he has a lot of potential. If he can get his numbers up a bit more, while also staying reliable defensively, he could land himself a pretty noticeable raise.
Other Players With Expiring Deals: Artturi Lehkonen LW (RFA), Jake Evans C (RFA), Cedric Paquette C (UFA), Brett Kulak D (UFA)
