Multiple Players From Seattle Kraken Placed On COVID Protocol List

Seattle Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol has announced that Joonas Donskoi, Calle Jarnkrok, Jared McCann, Marcus Johansson and Jamie Oleksiak have all been placed on the COVID protocol list.

These are five key players who the Kraken likely won't end up not having for their season opener against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday, October 12th. Thus, it's not the best way to start the regular season.

In 51 games last season with the Colorado Avalanche, Donskoi had 17 goals and 31 points. Once he is healthy, he stands a shot of being in their top-six during the season.

Jarnkrok is coming off of a very solid season with the Nashville Predators. In 49 games, he scored 13 goals and recorded 28 points. Due to his versatility, he can fit anywhere in Seattle's lineup, so his absence is notable.

McCann is a significant loss down the middle. He is expected to be their first-line center once he is fully healthy. In 43 games last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, he scored 14 goals and had 32 points. In a larger role with Seattle, he could be able to produce even more.

Johansson, like Jarnkrok, is another forward who can play multiple positions. He had a down year with the Minnesota Wild this past season, as he had just six goals and 14 points in 36 games. Yet, in 60 games the previous season with the Buffalo Sabres, he scored nine goals and had 21 assists. When healthy and on his game, he is capable of getting 40 points.

Lastly, Oleksiak is a big loss on the backend. He is expected to be a top-four shut-down defenseman for the Kraken just like he was with the Dallas Stars. In 56 games last season, he scored six goals and recorded 14 points.
