New York Islanders Sign Enforcer To Four-Year Extension
The New York Islanders have signed Ross Johnston to a four-year extension. It will begin during the 2022-23 season and carry a $1.1 million cap hit.
This actually isn't the first time the Islanders signed the 6'5" winger to a four-year deal. Before the start of the 2018-19 season, he was signed to a four-year, $4 million contract. It's extremely rare to see a depth forward sign a contract with this many years on it - let alone two different times.
Yet, it's clear that the Islanders love what Johnston brings them. The term on his contract will also very likely keep teams away from him if the Islanders ever put him on waivers.
In 87 career games with the Islanders, he has seven goals, eight assists and 15 points. He also has a notable 202 penalty minutes, so yes, he plays a very physical game.
Nonetheless, congrats to Ross for landing himself another long-term contract!
