New York Islanders Veteran Forward Placed On Waivers

The New York Islanders have placed forward Leo Komarov on waivers. Due to the Islanders' strong forward depth and Matt Martin set to come back, one could argue that this was predictable.

Komarov suited up for a game with the Islanders this season and did not get on the scoresheet. Last season with the team, he had a goal and eight points in 33 games. At this point of his career, he's more of a defensive forward who can fit well in the bottom-six and be utilized on the penalty kill.

Komarov has one year left on his contract and carries a $3 million cap hit. Due to the fact that he has an expensive contract, it seems unlikely that another team would claim him. If he does in fact clear, the Islanders certainly wouldn't mind him sticking around, as he would be a good depth player for them when injuries inevitably occur.
