New York Rangers Announce Six Alternate Captains For Season

Earlier this off-season, the New York Rangers announced that they would be picking their first captain since defenseman Ryan McDonagh. However, head coach Gerard Gallant has decided against this. Instead, the team have named Artemi Panarin, Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Jacob Trouba, Ryan Strome and Barclay Goodrow as alternate captains for the season.
With these choices, it's rather apparent that the Rangers are looking to have their veterans take on leadership roles. Norris Trophy winning defenseman Adam Fox was passed up on, as well as other young players like Alexis Lafrenière, K' Andre Miller and Ryan Lindgren.

It appears that these six are now in the running to be named the next captain of the Rangers. However, time will tell when the Blueshirts will actually pick one. The last time they had a captain was during the 2017-18 season when Ryan McDonagh had the role.
