Olli Juolevi Traded To The Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers have acquired defenseman Olli Juolevi from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Juho Lammikko and defenseman Noah Juulsen.

Yesterday, we reported that Juolevi was being shopped by the Canucks, so it's not surprising to see him dealt. The 23-year-old was not going to make the NHL team and would have had to go through waivers before playing in the minors. Therefore, the Canucks did not want to lose him for nothing.

The Canucks drafted Juolevi with the fifth overall selection of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. It's fair to say that he did not reach the previous expectations he once had. He just played his first NHL season in Vancouver, where he had two goals and an assist in 23 games. With Florida, he is now getting a much-needed change of scenery and hopefully more chances at the NHL level.

In 44 games last season with the Panthers, Lammikko scored four goals and had an assist. He previously played 40 games with Florida during the 2018-19 season and had six assists.

Juulsen, another former first-round pick, also has struggled to cement himself as a legitimate NHL defenseman. He played just four games with the Panthers last season and did not record a point. In 48 career games between the Canadiens and Panthers, he has two goals, six assists and eight points.
