Report: Alex Ovechkin Injury Not Looking Serious

When Alex Ovechkin was injured against the Philadelphia Flyers in their most recent preseason tilt, Washington Capital fans were naturally nervous. Thankfully, though, his lower-body injury has been labeled as day-to-day. The 36-year-old winger will not be missing any serious time.

It would have been very difficult for the Capitals to lose Ovechkin for the start of the regular season. He is still their best player and Nicklas Backstrom's current status is still up in the air, too. He's been dealing with an injured left hip.

The Capitals will be getting their captain back very shortly, so they should have no trouble producing offense this October. Ovechkin is still an elite goal-scorer, as evidenced by his 24 goals and 42 points in 45 games last season. It will be intriguing to see what he can provide this season.

All eyes will be on him this year, as he is trying to catch Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal record.
