The Boston Bruins are currently having extension talks with defenseman Charlie McAvoy. The 23-year-old has one year remaining on his contract and is due for a raise.

Pierre LeBrun noted that he thinks that "there's still work to be done" and that the extension may take some time to be finalized. Jim Murphy of Boston Hockey Now, on the other hand, stated that McAvoy will likely sign by Friday. He also noted that McAvoy's next deal will likely be eight years and will carry a cap hit between $9 million and $9.5 million. It will be interesting to see if Murphy's prediction is correct.
I would be surprised if it didn't get done eventually but at this hour, yes talks are ongoing between both sides, but my sense is there's still work to be done here on the McAvoy extension... https://t.co/GL7AZqTgPe

Based on what I’m hearing right now, I’d say this gets done by Friday. Likely 8x9-9.5. https://t.co/RgmtSZ5fyr

The Bruins certainly would like to get McAvoy locked up as soon as possible, as he is their top defenseman. He seems to improve with each season and is still young enough to get even better. In 51 games this past season with the B's, he scored five goals and recorded 30 points.
Do you envision the Bruins locking McAvoy soon? Let us know in the comments!
