Report: Dallas Stars Continuing To Make Progress With Star Defenseman
According to Pierre LeBrun, the Dallas Stars' extension talks with defenseman John Klingberg have been constant and going well. He envisions that he will be re-signed and predicts that a deal could be finalized in December or January.
Klingberg is easily one of the best defensemen on the Stars, so it is easy to see why they are aiming to extend him as soon as possible. The 29-year-old is eligible for unrestricted free agency next summer, and it would be extremely hard to replace him if he walks. In my latest: Which high-profile pending UFAs could sign extensions early this season?

In 53 games this past season, he scored seven goals and recorded 36 points. It was another strong offensive season for him, which has been the case throughout the entirety of his seven-year career thus far. In 478 career games with Stars, he has 65 goals, 262 assists and 327 points. Those are simply spectacular numbers from the backend.
The Stars already locked up defenseman Miro Heiskanen to an eight-year, $67.6 million extension during the off-season. It would not be surprising to see Klingberg make a bit less than that, but still get a lot himself.
