Rumor: New York Rangers May Trade Young Defenseman
According to Larry Brooks, the New York Rangers may look to move Libor Hajek before the start of the regular season. Due to the Rangers' depth on defense, the 23-year-old might not make the team. If they opt to send him to the Hartford Wolf Pack, he would need to go through waivers and another team would likely claim him immediately.
When looking at the defensemen the Rangers have, it is understandable that Hajek's future is in jeopardy. This off-season, they signed fellow left-handed defenseman Patrik Nemeth and he will be utilized on the bottom-pair. On the right side, they are expected to play prospect Nils Lundkvist because of his high ceiling. As depth, they also have Jarred Tinordi, Zac Jones and recently waived Anthony Bitetto.Column. The Rangers acquired Hajek as a part of the Ryan McDonagh trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning. In 44 games last season, he scored two goals and had four total points. He has never blossomed into that top-four defenseman many believed he would, so it would make sense for the Rangers to move on from him. At this point, it may be beneficial to both parties.
We will find out soon if Hajek gets moved, but if he doesn't, he may end up being a quality candidate on waivers.
