Rumor: Ottawa Senators Defenseman Likely Getting Traded
The Ottawa Senators are turning a corner as a franchise as they have signed some cornerstone pieces recently. Turns out one on defense hasn't worked out so far and a trade could be on the way for defenseman Erik Brannstrom.
The 22-year-old Brannstrom is currently down in the American Hockey League after being cut out of training camp. He managed to appear in 30 games last season, recording 13 points, but fell out of favor with head coach DJ Smith at camp. Brannstrom has shown in the past he's capable of dominating in the AHL, so some are wondering why he is wasting his time.
Look for Brannstrom's name to be someone the Senators dangle on the trade market as the team is performing well so far this season. While no one is expecting them to contend this season and go all-in with a bunch of trades at the deadline, however we could see a hockey trade or two from the team where they move someone like Brannstrom for a young forward or perhaps a more physical defenseman.
Keep an eye on the Senators and if you see them make a deal, expect to see Brannstrom's name involved.
