Seattle Kraken: 3 Players With Expiring Contracts
With the off-season completed, it feels right to take a preview into next year's. In this segment, we will be looking at three players from each team who have expiring contracts. Both restricted and unrestricted free agents are eligible for discussion.
In this piece, we will be discussing the Seattle Kraken. They have a good amount of players with expiring contracts. Thus, a lot of their inaugural roster could very well not stick around long. If Seattle finds themselves near the bottom of the NHL, this also could make them sellers at the deadline.
Mark Giordano D (UFA): Mark Giordano is the biggest name on the Kraken's roster. It will be interesting to see what they end up doing with the 38-year-old defenseman. He is still quite good at the NHL level, as evidenced by his nine goals and 26 points in 56 games last season. The former Flames captain could also take on the role with Seattle, especially if they end up extending him.
Jared McCann C (RFA): Jared McCann should be given a great opportunity with the Kraken this season. On paper, he seems like the best candidate to be their first-line center, which would give him a lot of playing time. In 43 games last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, he scored 14 goals and had 32 points in a smaller role. If he produces even more in Seattle, he will get himself a large raise next summer.
Calle Jarnkrok F (UFA): Calle Jarnkrok is another player who could become an unrestricted free agent next summer. If he plays like he did last season with the Nashville Predators, the Kraken may want to keep him around. The versatile forward scored 13 goals and recorded 28 points in 49 games. It will be intriguing to see how he does as a member of the Kraken.
Other Players With Expiring Contracts: Mason Appleton C/RW (RFA), Colin Blackwell C/RW (UFA), Ryan Donato C/LW (RFA, Haydn Fleury D (RFA), Marcus Johansson F (UFA), Jeremy Lauzon D (RFA)
