Video: Seattle Kraken Retire First Number In Their History
The Seattle Kraken may only be six games into their history, but they already have a retired number. Before Saturday night's game against the Vancouver Canucks, Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke announced that the team would retire #32. This is because they are the league's 32nd franchise and wanted to honor the 32,000 fans who made deposits for season tickets the first day they were allowed to. From here, #32 would be showed from the rafters.
With this, they have retired a number before the Columbus Blue Jackets, Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks. The modern Winnipeg Jets technically haven't either, but they honor the numbers retired by the original Jets franchise. The @SeattleKraken's first-ever home game started with No. 32 being officially retired by the NHL's 32nd team. #SeaKraken pic.twitter.com/Dmh4YQZOS5

This is cool gesture from the Kraken. It shows their appreciation towards the fans and it certainly is justifiable. Although the game resulted in a 4-2 loss to the Canucks, there's no denying that it was a big night for Seattle's history. They play their next home game this upcoming Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens. They will be hoping to give their fans a win this time.
