Trade Rumor: Edmonton Oilers Shopping For a Goalie
There's some high expectations for the Edmonton Oilers this season but a ton of their success is going to come down to goaltending. Rumor has it, expect the Oilers to be adding a netminder via trade during the 2021-22 season.
According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, he fully expects to see the Oilers adding a netminder in season as the team has a legit shot at winning the Stanley Cup this year:
Ken Holland will also trade for a goaltender this season in Edmonton. The Oilers explored a bevy of options before running back the tandem of Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen for a third straight season
Some names that could be available, in no particular order include Anaheim Ducks starter John Gibson, Columbus Blue Jackets netminder Elvis Merzlikins, and Detroit Red Wings goalie Thomas Griess.
It will come down to what Oilers general manager Ken Holland is willing to give up. The Oilers are apparently willing to move their first-round pick in 2022, and that will certainly help their chances of landing a big fish on the trade market.
As for now, they turn to the wily veteran Mike Smith who at 39 years old is still getting it done. For how long? That's the million-dollar question.
