Trade Rumor: Maple Leafs Listening to Offers
The Toronto Maple Leafs are as deep as they've ever been. The 2021-22 training camp is winding down and the regular season is around the corner. Word is the team has been receiving a ton of trade calls on a couple of their players.
Rumor has the Maple Leafs two players of interest are defenseman Travis Dermott and forward Alexander Kerfoot. As for Dermott, he's only 24 and signed for this season and next. The mobile defenseman appears to have lost the competition for the #6 defensive spot to former first-rounder Timothy Liljegren. Teams interested include the Detroit Red Wings and Dallas Stars.
On the other hand, Kerfoot is someone of interest because of his versatility. He's likely starting off as the Maple Leafs third-or-fourth line center and is in a battle for minutes with newcomer David Kampf. Kampf is expected to play a shut down role for the team so that's leaving Kerfoot and his $3.5 million salary for the team's fourth line. There could be nights he plays on the left wing and he's capable of moving up and down the lineup.
The Maple Leafs received a trade request from Ilya Mikheyev over the offseason so now they appear to be giving him a chance to prove himself on the team's second line. If things don't work out there early on this season, look for the Russian speedster to be shipped out for a change of scenery. Lots going on with the Maple Leafs, and they could be one team who is wheeling and dealing early on in 2021-22.
