Trade Rumor: New York Islanders Interested In Anaheim Ducks Defenseman

Earlier this week, we reported that the Anaheim Ducks are likely going to trade defenseman Hampus Lindholm before this season's trade deadline. According to Arthur Staple of The Athletic, the New York Islanders were interested in the defenseman this summer and could once again explore adding him as the season progresses.

Lindholm certainly would be a good addition for the Islanders. When looking at New York's lineup, their primary weakness is the left side of their defense. They traded away Nick Leddy this off-season and signed Zdeno Chara right before the start of the regular season. Yet, at this point of his career, Chara is more of a bottom-pair defenseman. Andy Greene also is in the lineup and the same can be said for him. Lindholm, on the other hand, would fit nicely on their second pair.

Lindholm dealt with injuries last season and was limited to just 18 games. However, he's been quite good when healthy over the years. He is consistently able to produce at least 20 points per season and has had at least 30 points in three different campaigns. Therefore, he would provide a bit of offense on the backend for the team.

The Islanders could use an upgrade on their left side and Lindholm would absolutely give them that. We will have to wait and see if he becomes an Islander this season.
