Trade Rumor: Ottawa Senators Could Move Brady Tkachuk

The Ottawa Senators haven't even signed young forward Brady Tkachuk to a new contract yet and the trade speculation appears to be picking up.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger the Senators signing Tkachuk to a bridge deal would set the two sides up for a trade before the deal may even be three years old.

If he goes on a three-year bridge, I don’t think Brady Tkachuk makes it past year two, maybe early into year three. As long as Melnyk is the owner of the Ottawa Senators he’s not going to want to wrestle with another dispute and now we’re starting to speculate on trade

Word is the Senators have offered an eight-year deal at $64 million total but Tkachuk doesn't want to short change himself with a long term commitment and is looking for something short-term. All you have to do is take a peek at the Calgary Flames' salary cap chart to see the kind of deal the younger Tkachuk brother is looking for.

Ottawa moving out one of their young cornerstone pieces would surely piss off the fanbase quite a bit as it appears they are still on the player's side. The Senators used to be a force to be reckon with back in the Erik Karlsson days and have felt pain for years, with pleasure around the corner. Without Tkachuk in the mix, this could turn into the same ol' story for Sens fans. As for teams interested in adding Tkachuk, at this point, every single one regardless of his contract length.
