Travis Hamonic Not Opting Out Of This Season
The Vancouver Canucks have confirmed that defenseman Travis Hamonic is not opting out of this season. At this present time, he is still staying home to focus on some personal matters.
This situation is still not fully resolved and it's hard to predict if Hamonic will end up playing for Vancouver this season. Earlier this week, Vancouver Hockey Now reported that the 31-year-old defenseman would like to be traded to a team in the United States because he is not vaccinated. This, in turn, would allow him to have less restrictions for the season. On behalf of Jim Benning: “We’ve received confirmation that Travis Hamonic will not be opting out this season. He remains at home, dealing with some personal matters. We continue to support him, and out of respect for the situation, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Hamonic signed a two-year, $6 million extension with Vancouver this summer, so it's surprising that all of this uncertainty of his future with the team is occurring. In 38 games this past season with the Canucks, he had three goals and seven assists.Source close to Hamonic says the #Canucks defenceman would now prefer playing in a US market & the club is considering a trade. More games would be available without cross-border travel. Report is Hamonic is not vaxed. Ironic, considering his earlier career desires to move North.

We will have to wait and see what happens with Hamonic next.
