Vancouver Canucks Provide Clarity On Travis Hamonic Situation
The Vancouver Canucks have announced that defenseman Travis Hamonic has been placed on a temporary leave of absence. The 31-year-old has been dealing with personal matters and did not report to training camp last month.
It was initially reported by CapFriendly that the Canucks had suspended Hamonic without pay, but the team quickly provided clarity about the situation. While on his leave, Hamonic still will not have a cap hit, however. Thus, the Canucks still save money for the time being.
Hamonic was waived earlier this month by the team and did not report to the Canucks' AHL affiliate in Abbotsford. He also signed a two-year, $6 million contract this off-season with Vancouver.Based on info we've received, it appears that the #Canucks have suspended Travis Hamonic without pay

He was already buried in the minors, decreasing his cap hit from $3M to 1.875M. The 1.875M hit is now also completely removed. His current cap hit is $0https://t.co/jo7gk1enqM
The Canucks also noted that they will no longer talk about Hamonic's situation to the media anymore.
