Video: Columbus Blue Jackets Top Prospect Scores First NHL Goal
At the 2021 NHL Entry Draft this July, the Columbus Blue Jackets selected Cole Sillinger 12th overall. Now, just three months later, the 18-year-old forward has scored his first NHL goal. In Thursday night's game against the New York Islanders, he received a nice pass in front by Vladislav Gavrikov and one-timed it home.
Sillinger is currently the youngest player in the NHL, but he isn't looking out of place. On the season thus far, he now has a goal and an assist in four games. As he becomes more comfortable in the sport's most competitive league, it will not be surprising to see his production go up.
Sillinger was actually born in Columbus, as his father Mike Sillinger was playing for the Blue Jackets back in 2003. Although he would grow up primarily in Canada, this is still a cool little fact.
Nonetheless, congrats to the kid for getting on the board. Here's to many more!
