Video: Latest Update on Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews
The Toronto Maple Leafs have started the season 2-1 and have done so without their best player Auston Matthews. Word is things are looking great for the young forward and Leafs Nation could see Matthews suit up on Monday against the New York Rangers.
Matthews has been taken part in practice and skating on his own like he did so Saturday morning. He's starting to shoot the puck a lot more in practice which is a great sign as he tries to rehab his wrist after having offseason surgery.
Matthews scored 41 goals in 52 games last season and everyone is expecting 60 in 2021-22. He's going to need to stay healthy to do so and get on the ice sooner than later. The Leafs could use Matthews in the lineup as they try to get Nick Ritchie and Mitch Marner going early on.
As it looks right now, expect to see Matthews season debut against the Rangers on Monday, and let's just say he's looking fresh and ready to dominate:
