Video: Senators' Drake Batherson Gets First Career Hat Trick Against Capitals
Monday night's game between the Washington Capitals and Ottawa Senators was a crazy one. There were a lot of goals, as the Capitals would go on to win the contest by a final score of 7-5. T.J. Oshie recorded a hat trick, but he was not only the player to do so. Ottawa's Drake Batherson also would get his first career one, too.
Batherson has blossomed into a real steal for the Senators. The 121st overall pick of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft is becoming a legitimate top-six forward in this league and already can be labeled as a steal. In his first full year with the Senators last season, he scored 17 goals and recorded 34 points. Due to his success, they decided to sign him to a six-year, $29.85 million contract this summer.
Although the Senators ended up losing the game, it's hard not to be impressed with Batherson's dominant offensive performance. All three of his goals were very nice, but his second one was the best. The young forward showed great patience with the puck and was able to roof it past Ilya Samsonov.
Here's to hoping we see many more hat tricks from Batherson as his continues on with his NHL career.
