Video: Washington Capitals Rookie Scores First Goal And T.J. Oshie Loves It
Hendrix Lapierre played his first NHL game in the Washington Capitals' season opener against the New York Rangers. He started off his career with a bang, as he scored his first career goal after a beautiful feed from T.J. Oshie. Oshie was clearly ecstatic, as he dropped his stick and lifted Lapierre from the ice after. It was a fantastic moment between the veteran and the rookie.
With the injury to Nicklas Backstrom, it opened up a spot for Lapierre and he is already taking advantage of it. The 19-year-old center also has high expectations from the organization, as they selected him with the 22nd overall pick of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.OMG LAPPY GOAL! pic.twitter.com/8JVyK2By2Y

He spent last season as an alternate captain for the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the QMJHL. In 21 games with them, he scored eight goals and recorded 31 points.
Nonetheless, it was a great night for the Capitals. They not only won the game 5-1, but also had a few more notable things occur. Besides Lapierre's first goal, Alex Ovechkin scored twice and is now fifth all time in NHL goals. Head coach Peter Laviolette also passed John Tortorella for most wins by an NHL head coach from the United States.
